CATALINA UK HISTORY
Catalina Marketing launched in the UK in 1992. The company is based in Reading.
Within its first year, Catalina Marketing UK established the first in-store targeted marketing network in the UK with supermarket chain Asda. In 1995 Asda and Catalina Marketing worked together to develop opportunities for manufacturers to promote and advertise their brands through the Checkout Coupon system.
Catalina Marketing started working with Somerfield supermarket in 1997. In 2004 they launched the Saver Card loyalty scheme, which offered customers promotions and money-off coupons tailored to their shopping patterns. Three million shoppers signed up for the card in the first year, and more than 60% of sales were linked to the card.
In 2006 the scheme was superseded by a new in-store coupon programme which allows brands and retailers to target promotions directly to consumers, but still sees shoppers receiving targeted promotions at the till.
During 2008, the first in-store colour printers were launched in the UK.
